Three Credits LA An overview of continuity and change in the role and condition of women in East, South, and Southeast Asia from approximately 1800 to the present. After exploring traditions of patriarchy, accommodation, and resistance, the course traces the effects of the modern transformations in states, economies, and societies, focusing on the issue of women's agency and the development of women' s consciousness in the modern era.
