Three Credits This course introduces students to the basic principles of instruction and classroom management, and helps them acquire teaching skills that, while appropriate and useful for all children, are essential for helping children with special needs to learn. Strategies for students who have learning disabilities, behavioral disorders, and mental retardation are emphasized. Students learn about the major research efforts that form the foundation of the body of professional knowledge in teaching, examine the generalizations and principles that are drawn from the research findings, and begin to use these principles in small-group teachingexperiences with their peers and in class discussions of teaching cases.
