Three Credits LA This course is an examination of documentary film and video, both as a film movement and as a record of history. The course surveys the historical development of documentary starting with the Lumière Brothers and ending with new trends in documentary. Filmmakers examined include: Robert Flaherty, Pare Lorentz, Frederick Wiseman, Leni Reifenstahl, John Grierson, John Huston, Michael Moore, and Errol Morris. Various trends in documentary will be explored, such as: documentary as social advocate, Cinéma Vérité, propaganda, ethnographic uses.
