This is the first college-level algebra course offered at MCC. The course helps students further develop a knowledge foundation of basic algebra concepts that are required to solve problems in all programs of study available at the college. The algebra topics offered are signed numbers; polynomial operations; solutions of linear equations and inequalities involving numerical and literal terms; factoring polynomials; word problems; formula manipulation; graphing linear equations; systems of linear equations and solutions of equations by factoring or the quadratic formula; and an introduction to functions and their related notions. Prerequisites: satisfactory placement test scores as defined by mathematics faculty; successful completion (grade of C or better) MATH080; or permission of the instructor.
