4 cr. 5 hr. This course will introduce the principal ideas and the development of modern 20th century physics along with its foundations in mathematics. After historical review of the development of ideas from Newton's laws through 19th century physics, aspects of quantum mechanics will be addressed. These include the wave-particle duality of nature, the Uncertainty Principle, the probabilistic nature of the universe, and Einstein's Special and General Theories of Relativity. Q, IDIS Prerequisite: MATH 1250 or 1300 or high school math equivalency.
