This class will provide a selective survey of European Literature from the Medieval period to 1800, at time period which lays the foundation for many poetic, prose, dramatic genres of Western literature and which spans many political, social, cultural developments. Special emphasis is given to the development of the novel, women's writing and the development of a "European" literature and tradition.
