3 cr. 3 hr. The course provides for the study of human communication theories, concepts, contexts and skills with the intent of developing an understanding of everyday interaction. Through the study of human communication theory, students will develop the vocabulary and concepts to evaluate communication practices. The class pays particular attention to achieving self-presentation and relational skills that apply to a variety of social contexts students encounter. Class discussion, activities and assignments are designed to develop both knowledge and competencies necessary to understand the relationship between communication patterns and social order. Prerequisite: junior status
