This course provides teacher and endorsement candidates with the necessary foundations, strategies, and understanding to successfully organize, provide adaptations, and manage the learning environment for the special needs of exceptional students as necessary for writing and implementing a quality Individual Education Plan (IEP). Course work and class activities include: topics on creating collaborative relationships with parents, students, and other educators within school environments; successful transitions to inclusive settings; and working successfully with parents and members of education teams. WAC 392-172 components, current Public Law 94-142, new IDEA Improvement Act of 2004 and other current public laws and WACs as applicable covered in this course include student assessment and evaluation, areas of alternative delivery systems and strategies for special education, exceptionality, instructional methods in special education, and procedural and substantive legal issues in special education as related to the IEP process.
