This course applies models for analyzing and managing student behavior, including basic types of student behavior, student motivation, prevention strategies, intervention strategies, and behavior change plans of action. Candidates investigate behavior management strategies considered effective with different areas of exceptionality, including: mental retardation, learning disabilities, behavior and emotional disorders, communication disorders, hearing impairment, visual impairment, physical disability, health impaired, and gifted and talented. All components of the WAC's are supported in this course, including the areas of alternative delivery systems and strategies for special education, exceptionality, and student assessment and evaluation requirements. This is the second of two courses on behavior analysis. In the first course, EDE/SPED 417A, students develop an understanding of functional behavior assessment and management. EDE/SPED 417B is a performance based class allowing students to apply their learning from EDE/SPED 417A.
