This course provides candidates seeking an alternative route to certification with a dual endorsement in Elementary Education and Special Education endorsement. This course provides candidates with specific strategies for instructing and assisting special needs students as they acquire literacy skills. Discussions also focus on the impact of cultural differences and diversity in the classroom. Candidates learn to use assessments before, during, and after teaching to guide instruction for diverse learners. Technology is explored to foster flexible learning opportunities and the reinforcement of skills. Moral and cultural values reflected in children's literature are explored.
