This course is an elaboration of the philosophical model of exceptionality for Special Education based on both inclusion and specialist paradigms including: definitions, medical descriptions of different disabilities, terminology, and acronyms for Special Education. In addition, students will investigate different areas of exceptionality, including: mental retardation, learning disabilities, behavior and emotional disorders, speech and language disorders, hearing impaired, visually impaired, physically disabled, health impaired, and gifted and talented. This course explores developmental needs of exceptional individuals as they progress through life.
