Description:

This course, the first of six supervised field experiences for prospective dual endorsed candidates, is a 40- to-60 hour experience orientation to teaching and the culture of public schools. The course has two main components, a seminar and a field experience in a local elementary or special education classroom setting. The field experience links theory with practice in a school setting. At the school site, interns are involved in a variety of introductory experiences related to their university classroom work and the school setting, mentored by a classroom teacher, and supervised by a university faculty member. In seminar, students will discuss the culture of schools, build awareness of the complexity of relationships, and practice skills to feel effective in the variety of challenging conversations involved in the teaching and learning.
