An examination of current issues in the sociology of sport, focusing on how the institution of sport is a microcosm of society and how it provides insights into a society's national psyche, economic, and political systems, social problems, international relations, and issues of social change. Applying the theories and methods of sociology to the analysis of sport, the course examines the relationship between sport, culture, and society. Prerequisite: SOC 1010 or consent of instructor.
