Examination of the biochemical basis for heredity. Emphasis on conceptual and experimental approaches that have been influential in shaping current views of the structure and function of the gene. Topics include the molecular aspects of nucleic acid replication, transcription, translation, regulation of gene expression, recombination, DNA repair, and RNA processing. Three hours of lecture.
