Franko Reading and discussion of outstanding works in translation from Archaic, Classical, and Hellenistic Greece, including selections from such authors as Homer, Sophocles, Euripides, Sappho, Herodotus, Plato, and Aristophanes. The course examines what makes these works "classics," the definingcharacteristics of different genres, and the social context in which these authors worked. Open to first-year students.
