This course will review the history of child welfare systems and services in the United States. The nature and delivery of child welfare services through public and private child welfare organizations will be scrutinized. Current legislative activity as well as the role of courts will be examined. The course is intended to examine the function and responsibilities of diverse professionals and thus is appropriate for students in various social science majors. Prerequisites: PSC 101 or PSY 201 or SOC 202. Three hours, three credits.
