This course exposes teacher education students to much of the literature currently being read by students in grades four through nine. They gain knowledge of current and historical perspectives about the nature and purposes of reading and about widely used approaches and instructional materials for reading instruction. The course requires extensive reading, covering many genres and authors of varied backgrounds. Prerequisite: Gen. Ed. 1. Offered fall and spring.
