Introduces students to the role of the nurse in providing basic nursing care to well individuals across the life span. Explores concepts of nursing process, health promotion, therapeutic communication, teaching-learning and systems. Skills essential to nursing practice and self-care are emphasized. Placement: second semester sophomore year. The course will include theory and laboratory components. Prerequisites: BIOL 231, 280, Reading & Writing Skills, and Speaking & Listening Skills are taken prior to or concurrent with NURS 221. May be scheduled concurrently with NURS 110, BIOL 232, NURS 201, 202.
