The scope of this course is functional group chemistry [hydrocarbons, alkyl halides, alcohols (diols, thiols and epoxides), carbonyls (aldehydes, ketones, carboxylic acids and their derivatives), amines, phenols] including the nature of covalent bonds, sterochemistry (geometric, conformational and stereoisomers) and reaction mechanisms. This course is only for students enrolled in the Summer Institute in Science and Math who are not matriculating at Capital University. Prerequisites: CHEM 101 and CHEM 102 or their equivalents. Offered in the summer.
