Emphasis is placed on the rebellion against 19th-century idealism and metaphysics as manifested in the two divergent and predominant contemporary philosophies: existentialism and analytic philosophy. Russell,Moore,Wittgenstein, Whitehead, Bergson, James,Dewey, Sartre, Kafka and Camus are among the philosophers considered.
