Prerequisites: Completion of all required fifthyear courses. This course will cover delivery systems for biotechnology-derived drugs and techniques used to evaluate these delivery systems. The major emphasis will be placed on important aspects utilized in the design and development of delivery systems for biotechnology-derived drug substances, such as peptides and proteins. Novel approaches to deliver gene therapy will also be discussed. In addition, studies such as in vitro drug release studies, cell culture studies used to determine drug absorption, and in vivo pharmacokinetic studies for the evaluation of biotechnologyderived products will be covered. Lecture, 3 hours. Credit: 3 semester hours.
