Prerequisite: ENG 1000C and ENG 1100C. This course will examine the fairy tale tradition in literature, especially through the collection of fairy tales by Giambattista Basile, Charles Perrault, the Brothers Grimm and Hans Christian Andersen. It will also consider reworkings and new creations of this form by modern practitioners, especially women. Attention will be paid to the way the more popular versions of some of these tales have been translated into commercial films and TV shows. Credit: 3 semester hours.
