This course examines why countries, groups, and individuals often resort to the use of violence in international politics, what strategies they employ, and what possibilities, if any, exist for bringing them back to nonviolent bargaining. Topics include civil and interstate war, weapons of mass destruction, terrorism, insurgencies, assassinations, peacekeeping, and mediation.
