The information age is revolutionizing education from the university to the earliest grade levels. At the same time, adaptive software and hardware hold the potential of reducing barriers to education for students with disabilities. Teachers need to know about these technologies. This course meets the needs of both the special education teacher and the discipline teacher as they work to prepare modified lesson plans to better facilitate the inclusion of students with disabilities. While the course has a focus on techniques used to overcome some of the special problems in the teaching and learning of mathematics and science, the learning of these techniques enables the teacher to overcome problems of access in other subjects. This course uses a variety of delivery systems including lecture, small-group problem-solving, hands-on work, and individual and group interactions over the Internet using distance-learning technologies.
