This course looks at the intersections of art and culture in the United States from the middle of the 19th century to the middle of the 20th. In addition to considering painting, photography, film and other visual arts, students explore the significance of influential exhibitions and publications. Students examine the ways in which cultural, political, economic, social, and scientific concerns were literally "envisioned" from the Victorian era into themodern era. Cross-listed with ARTS 320C.
