This course provides a survey of history and cultures of the indigenous peoples in Mesoamerica. Starting with an overview of indigenous life prior to contact, the course proceeds historically through colonialism, the era of liberal reforms, and onto the modern era in Mesoamerica. The last portion of the course consists of reading ethnographies from Mesoamerica.
