An overview of the practice of counseling with emphasis on interviewing, assessment and evaluation. This study serves as an introduction to techniques of psychotherapy and various treatment strategies used in a variety of clinical settings. The student will also be introduced to a set of basic communication skills useful for managing conflicts as a participant and as an intervener. Ethical and legal issues will be considered. Prerequisite: PSY 231 or consent of instructor. Offered fall.
