A critical, theoretical, philosophical, and psychological examination of the history of Science Fiction on Film. Students will learn the history of this genre as it relates to art, culture, and society with an emphasis on the progression of cinematic vision, interpretation of imagination, the nature of prophesy on film, and film as visual text. Through class screenings, readings, discussions, and writings students will explore Science Fiction as a unique method of communicating human desire, fear, and prescience.
