This course focuses on the anthropological approach to health, in which the student develops a holistic perspective by integrating biological, ecological, sociocultural, and historical aspects of health and illness. Examples are taken from societies throughout the inhabited world and in various time periods. Specific topics include human reproduction, nutrition, the use of psycho active drugs, and the relationship between caregivers and their clients. The relationship of minority cultural systems within larger pluralistic societies are also studied. Prerequisite: ANTH 101.
