Topics discussed include the DTE to DCE physical connection (with emphasis on EIA-232), data link protocols (BISYNC, DDCMP, HDLC), the OSI reference model, LANs, MANs, LAN interconnection and the role of bridges and routers, X.25, TCP/IP, Frame Relay, SMDS, SNA, ISDN, SS7, BISDN, and enterprise networks. An introduction to traffic engineering is also provided. Prerequisite: TELE 110, TMAT 155, QANT 301 or equivalent.
