Prerequisite: SUR 5000A and SUR 5250 Note: 24 operating room hours per week and 8 hours of ward work per week. Goals: Increased knowledge and skills in the field of Otolaryngology and in the care of surgical patients; Objectives: The student will perform accurate and thorough history and physical on surgical inpatients and outpatients, participate with increasing responsibility under supervision in the evaluation of preoperative and postoperative care of surgical patients, fully participate in all educational conferences and appropriately participate in patient procedures; Activities: Students on this elective will function as substitute interns on the Otolaryngology Service at the Medical College of Georgia. The student will function as an integral part of the service. The student is expected to initiate the clinical data base, begin diagnostic measures, and where possible, perform surgical procedures with supervision. In addition, he/she will participate in the teaching responsibilities, conferences, clinics, and operating experiences of the service to which he/she is assigned and he/she will be assigned night call responsibilities.
