SURG 5013 - Surgical Critical Care/Trauma Clerkship

Prerequisite: Core Curriculum During assignment at Atlanta Medical Center, students will be introduced to Surgical Critical Care and Trauma. There is an 18 bed Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU) and a moderately busy Trauma Surgery service, and VICU and CVICU. During this rotation, the student will be assigned to patients in the SICU related procedures. There are daily teaching rounds in the SICU with the faculty and housestaff, as well as a variety of surgical conferences on a weekly basis. The exposure to trauma patients is varied and depends on the types of patients admitted. The majority have received blunt injury and are assessed in the trauma admitting area. There is opportunity to spend time with the helicopter team relative to transport care and issues.
