3 FS The visual aspect of film (without which there would be no film), a history of film imagery, analysis of aesthetic aspects of montage, examination of relationships between film and major nineteenth and twentieth century art movements, avant-garde and underground film, recent developments, including experiments in video and computer-generated imagery. Innovative filmmakers such as Maya Deren and Hans Richter will be studied.
