Themes include the formation of early human communities in selected parts of Africa, the ancient kingdoms and civilizations of Egypt, Meroe, Axum and others, the Sudanic empires and kingdoms, East and Southern African kingdoms, the trans-Saharan trade system, the slave trade and its impact, and political and economic developments to 1800.
