A survey of African history from the late 19th- century to the 1960's, this course examines, the abolition of the slave trade and the rise of commodity commerce, European imperialism, African resistance and the imposition of colonial domination. Political, economic and social developments during the colonial period, the emergence of African freedom struggles and nationalism and the recovery of African independence will also be examined.
