The topics include: the African background; slavery and the trans-Atlantic slave trade; Blacks in the colonial period; the Civil War and reconstruction; Black migrations, civil and social rights struggles; and political and cultural nationalism (Harlem Renaissance, the Civil Rights and Black Power Movements).
