Students will study critically the principal and alternative approaches in teaching and learning a second language and the linguistic, learning, and language acquisition theories upon which the approaches are based; discuss the nature of language, the constructive learning process, tacit versus propositional knowledge, the necessary and sufficient conditions for learning language, and education for humanization; and view and analyze videos and beginning language classes. Spring semester; oddnumbered years.
