This course will encompass the critical area of transition for the mild and moderate to severely handicapped special education student. The preservice teacher will through a variety of classroom and practicum experiences demonstrate the ability to identify and develop appropriate transition goals for the student. The preservice teacher will through varied practicum experiences develop a working knowledge of the services available to this population, as well as the skills needed by the special needs student to become a productive member of society. Preservice teachers will collaborate with supervising teachers to develop a knowledge basis for linking students and families with services ranging from assisted work environments to college application and other accommodations. Candidates will demonstrate the ability to develop sound transition plans by participating in the IEP process for students transitioning from middle school level to high school and from high school to society. Practicum experiences included. Learning Outcome: Critical Thinking. Prerequisites: EDUC 200 and SPED 101. Offered every other year.
