This course presents a review of adaptive immunity, recognition of self and non-self, effector mechanisms, and common laboratory techniques used to evaluate the state of the immune system. The remaining subjects will deal with the mechanisms by which pathogens avoid immune response, inherited and acquired immunodeficiencies, hypersensitivities, transplant rejections, control of the immune response, immune response to tumors, and vaccinations. Prerequisites: BIOL 101, 102, and CHEM 102. Offered every other year. Learning Outcome: Writing.
