An introductory course to the field of Athletic Training. Emphasis is placed on elements of recognition/care and prevention of common athletic illnesses and injuries. The roles of the BOCcertified athletic trainer and other community-based emergency care providers are also discussed. Includes a lab covering the selection, fabrication, and application of preventive taping, wraps, pads, splints, braces, and other specific protective devices. OSHA and Universal precaution during wound care and management are discussed and demonstrated as are the fitting of protective athletic equipment and crutches. Learning Outcome: Self-knowledge. Offered every year.
