The American auto industry is examined in its relationship to the economic and political structures of 20th-century U.S. This includes a focus on the social history of the industry as well as a discussion of the nature of auto work. Proposals for changing social relations at work are also examined. The course concludes with an examination of the impact of the industry on a local community (Detroit).
