The purpose of this course and the Math 385 and Math 387 courses is to provide future teachers with foundational knowledge of mathematics they will teach. An inquiry approach is emphasized involving problem solving, problem posing, pattern seeking, reasoning, justification, representations, and communications. Topics in Math 386 include number theory, proportional reasoning, the geometry of two-dimensional shape and measurement, integers, and the real number system.
