The purpose of this course and the Math 386 and Math 387 courses is to provide future teachers with foundational knowledge of mathematics they will teach. An inquiry approach is emphasized involving problem solving, problem posing, pattern seeking, reasoning, justification, representations, and communications. Topics in Math 385 include numeration, meaning of operations, the reasoning behind procedures, and the rational number system, including fractions and decimals.
