The course integrates the elements of traditional methods of engineering and time-motion studies with ergonomics and human factors concepts. Methods improvement, work measurement, and work design, applied to manufacturing and service industries, so as to increase productivity and improve worker health and safety. The topics covered include: problem solving tools; operation analysis; time-motion analysis; work sampling; manual and cognitive work design; workplace, equipment, tool and work environment design; allowances; and lean manufacturing.
