This course is an attempt to define a modern cultural history of Detroit. A team of three of four faculty members will explore the relationship between society and the fine arts in Detroit from several aspects: Detroit?s literature, arts, music, and architecture; its social conditions and broader American context. Field trips into the city are also included.
