This course examines the modern era in Latin American history from the early nineteenth-century wars for independence to the present day. The course will focus on the formation of the Latin American states, the development and growth of Latin American culture and society, the legacy of slavery, the transition to capitalism in the region, the growth of export economies snd dependency, and the rise of nationalism and revolutionary movements in the region.
