This course will address the effect of race, age, gender, religion, and economic status on medical research and health care. Through an examination of clinical trials and case studies, students will learn how medical research is performed in the United States, and what health care treatments and options for patients are available. Medical treatment and disease topics will be selected and will be evaluated as to how they are influenced by the criteria listed. The examples will focus on both cultural differences and inequity, in national and global settings.
