This course represents a survey of the sculpture, architecture, pottery, textiles, body ornament and performance arts of Sub-Saharan Africa (the Western Sudan and the Guinea Coast of Africa from the Sahara to the Gulf of Benin). Objects will be examined in light of individual cultures and religions, traditions, and social and political change.
