This gateway course in the AAAS minor will engage the students in the intellectual issues, historical perspectives and cultural debates in African and African American Studies. Using a trans-disciplinary approach, the AAAS faculty teaching this course as a team will draw from the disciplinary strengths of the Humanities, the Social Sciences, and the Behavioral Sciences. Texts will include literature, film, music, art, theater, and other forms of popular and folk culture. This course will routinely invite speakers and performers to the class and engage the campus community in these events.
