This course is an attempt to define a modern cultural history of Detroit. A team of three or four faculty members will explore the relationship between society and the arts in Detroit from several aspects: Detroit?s literature, arts, music and architecture; its social conditions and broader American cultural context. Field trips into the city are also included.
